Heptonstall Old Church 1998

Probably built around 1250-1260, it is dedicated to God and St. Thomas ˆ Beckett. Beckett was murdered in Canterbury Cathedral on December 29th 1170. His name was placed in the Saints' Calendar in 1173 and 'his bones were enshrined in gold and jewels' in 1220. Shortly after this date, a church was built at Heptonstall.
