The White Lion Hotel, Bridge Gate, Hebden Bridge c1907

"During the late Mr Thos. Patchett's proprietorship of this house he also carried on the Post-Office in the right hand side of the lobby going in, and we may state that the two first annual dinners of the Halifax and Calder-Vale Agricultural society were cooked and served at the above inn. In the days of stage coaches the White Lion was a house of considerable importance many 'lords and ladies of high degree' having been amongst its visitors, and was to the people of those days what the railway station is to people of the present time."
